"For more than 1 1/2 years, all I knew was pain — deep intense pain inside my hip and running down my leg, constantly. When I found out that I needed a hip replacement, I was sent to another surgeon but just wasn't comfortable with him. So, I asked a friend, whose sister is a nurse at White Plains Hospital, for a recommendation and went to see Dr. Kirschenbaum. We clicked right away and I was ready to go from there. I told Dr. K that he could operate on me as long as I could wear high heels again and I did in less than six months. In less than a year, I went to Brazil and Hong Kong and walked everywhere without any pain. Dr. K and his staff were wonderful and prepared me for everything.

All the information I could possibly need was given to me and I mean everything. I was really surprised when they said I would come out of the surgery with a new hip and the pain would be gone. But it was true. I was stiff and sore but that intense pain that was always present was just gone.

I was out of rehab in about half the time they expected and everyday, from home, I went on crutches, by myself, to physical therapy. I was supposed to be out of work for 6 weeks but only stayed out for 5. When I came back to work, I walked up a long flight of stairs daily and was just fine.

Considering how young I was when I had the surgery, Dr. K chose a metal on metal implant that may last as long as 25 years. Since I'll be retiring to Arizona I told him I'll come back for him to do the next replacement when the time comes because I will not let anyone else touch my hip."
